We went outside to practise our spelling patterns this week: We were learning the "shus" sounds, -tious and -cious. In order to practise which rules we could see, we learned through three different activities:
1. We used chalk on the playground to write giant sentences that included words with this sound (including some words that broke the rules and were exceptions!)
2. We sorted root words into ones that would take on the -tious or -cious endings, or were exceptions e.g. anxious.
3. We used dictionaries to sort words into 'real' words or 'nonsense' words.
It was far better than writing in our grammar books!
