Welcome back!

We are delighted to welcome our brand-new cohort of Year 4 pupils and are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.

The Autumn Term is always a busy one, so we encourage all parents and carers to regularly check the Parent News section of the website, particularly the School Calendar, where important dates for the year have already been added. A sample timetable is linked at the bottom. However, please be aware that lessons can change.

Our Learning This Term

We begin the year with an exciting History topic focusing on the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. This learning will be supported through our class novel, How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell, a firm favourite among the Year 4 team! Children will explore how Britain changed following the withdrawal of the Romans and investigate how the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings shaped the country we know today.

Across the wider curriculum:

In RE, we will explore the importance of Harvest in preparation for our Harvest Festival celebrations in October.
In PSHE, our unit 'Being Me in My World' will encourage children to think about their own feelings and the feelings of others.
In Art, we will study the work of M.C. Escher, before creating our own fantastic clay dragon-eye sculptures.

Maths

In Maths, we always begin the year by securing children's understanding of the fundamentals, including:

Place value
The four operations
Number knowledge and fluency

As many of you will be aware, Year 4 pupils complete the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June. We are already supporting children to improve their recall speed and accuracy in times tables, helping them build confidence and fluency across the maths curriculum. Thank you for your continued support with this important aspect of learning.

Homework and Communication

Homework will continue to be set on Wednesdays and should be completed and returned by Mondays.

Please check your child's diary regularly and sign it weekly. We also ask that you keep an eye out for any additional communications throughout the term.

We are excited for the term ahead and look forward to working together to ensure that all children have a happy, successful, and enjoyable Year 4 experience.
