Rights Ambassadors

The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) is a program run by UNICEF UK that aims to embed children's rights, as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), into a school's ethos and culture. The Gold Award is the highest level of the RRSA and is granted to schools that have fully embedded children's rights throughout all aspects of school life. Here at Leasowes, we have been a Gold: Rights Respecting School for 3 years.

A Gold Rights Respecting School is one where:

  • Children’s rights are at the heart of school policies and practices

  • Pupils feel empowered to speak up, participate in decision-making, and take action

  • The school community shows a deep understanding of and commitment to children’s rights locally and globally

Role of a Rights Ambassador

A Rights Ambassador is a student who helps promote and protect the rights of all children within the school and beyond. Their responsibilities will include:

  • Raising awareness of children's rights amongst students, staff, and parents through Life Beyond Leasowes Assemblies

  • Organising events and campaigns around global or local issues related to rights (Leasowes Fundraising Day)

  • Helping to ensure the school respects rights in its daily routines and policies

  • Listening to peers’ views and representing them in school decisions

  • Collaborating with staff to maintain a rights-respecting environment

  • Acting as role models by promoting respect, fairness, and equality

Rights Ambassadors play a vital role in making the values of respect, dignity, and inclusion a lived reality within their school community.
