Welcome to 1W!

Friday 20th July:

I can't believe we are at the end of our journey together. I am so proud of all of the children and I'm going to miss them terribly. I know they are all ready for Year 2 and I can't wait to hear all about their next adventure. The determination, friendship and love of learning they have shown each day has been incredible. I feel privileged to have taught such a wonderful and thoughtful group of children. Thank you so much all of your kind words and gifts. It has been a busy and emotional week but I'm looking forward to a busy Summer.

The children blew me away today as, when I returned from a meeting this morning, my classroom had been decorated with wedding wishes from the children. These will be displayed on my big day so I know the children will be with me in spirit. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for sunshine on the 14th August!

Thank you so much for all of your support this year. Seeing smiling faces at the start and end of each day has been a joy and I can't thank you enough for all of the work you have done at home with the children. This has really helped them with their emotional and academic development and their progress since September has been overwhelming. I've absolutely loved being their teacher this year and I will be watching them closely in Year 2. They can't shake me off just yet! I'm looking forward to catching up with all of the children in September and I wish you all a wonderful holiday.

Miss Williams (Soon to be Mrs Croton!)

Friday 22nd June:

1W have had a whirlwind first few weeks of Summer 2. We have been really busy with our phonics and making preparations for our Pirate Assembly.

Our assembly is on Friday 13th July at 2.15pm. We would love for you to join us. A letter has been sent home but please ask for an extra copy if you haven't received this. The children are invited to dress up as pirates for the day and I have an exciting morning planned for them.

The final few weeks are very busy in school and we still have lots of learning to do. I can't wait to share this special time with the class and we are all enjoying every moment in 1W.

As always, if you need to speak to me, please catch me in the morning or my email is:

Thank you for your continued support as we move towards preparing the children for Year 2.

Friday 25th May:

What an amazing end to Half Term!

We have had such a busy week in 1W. On Tuesday, we visited the Wolseley Centre and learned all about watery wildlife and minibeasts. I've placed a few photographs on the tab to the left. Thank you to everyone who supported the educational visit and the children all had a brilliant time. On Wednesday, it was Outdoor Classroom Day. The children completed addition and subtraction on the playground, a phonics hunt and even created their own minibeasts.

Sadly, we have come to the end of our Peter Pan work so, as part of their activity day, the children watched the film. We compared it to the story we had read and all decided we wanted to go to Neverland. If only that could be our next trip!

We will be continuing our 'Let's Explore!' topic after Half Term and I have lots of brilliant things planned for the children. I hope you all have a lovely Half Term and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 4th June.

Miss Williams :)

Friday 11th May:

As I'm sure the children have told you, we have been reading Peter Pan this week and he has even flew into our classroom. 1W have been memorised by Peter Pan and have loved learning about his adventures in Neverland. Peter Pan has also extended to our Geography work where we created our own maps of Neverland. In ICT, the children have been using beebots to create algorithms and different iPad apps have also been supporting this. In Maths, we have been continuing to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. We even used PE equipment to build arrays on the playground!

It isn't long until our Wolseley Centre visit and there are still a few outstanding forms. If you haven't handed your form in, please hand it in as soon as you can.

As always, if you need to speak to me, please catch me in the morning or my email is:

Thank you for your continued support.

Friday 27th April

1W have been exploring 'Where the Wild Things Are' this week. We have started to write our own versions where we have changed one part of the story. In Science, we have sorted animals based on their habitat and size. In Maths, we have been revisiting position and direction. The children were much more confident describing quarter turns and recognising left and right which is brilliant to see :)

Thank you to everyone who sent in their junk for the modelling on Friday. The children loved it and we tweeted before and after photos @Leasowesprimary. The left over junk was donated to Nursery who are also junk modelling soon.

If you haven't sent in your reply slip for the Wolseley visit, please send them in asap. Copies of the letters are below.

I have also attached our Let's Explore topic flyer for you to see what the children will be learning about this term.

As always, if you need to speak to me, please catch me in the morning or my email is:

Thank you for your continued support.

Friday 20th April

What a superb first week back 1W have had. They have settled back into school life really quickly and are very eager to learn. We have started reading 'Where the Wild Things Are' and the children had some great ideas about what a 'wild thing' might be. We described the main character of Max and discussed where he might sail off to. Following this, the children have decided to build boats in D&T so we will be completing this on Friday 27th April. If you have any cereal boxes, yoghurt pots, milk carton tops spare, please send them in :)

We have also managed to secure a date for our trip on Tuesday 22nd May to the Wolseley Centre. Please send in the reply slips to school so we can confirm numbers. Copies of the letters are below.

As always, if you need to speak to me, please catch me in the morning or my email is:

Thank you for your continued support.

Summer Term is here!

I can't believe we are starting the final term of Year One. The progress the children have made so far has blew me away and I can't wait to see what they achieve in our final term together. We are kicking off our final topic of 'Let's Explore!' Here the children will learn about animals from around the world, different climates and finally transform into pirates after Half Term!

I have lots of surprises planned along the way and I'm certain the children are going to enjoy their final term in Year One.

PE will be on a Wednesday and Thursday this half term. I've attached our updated timetable below.

I can't wait to start - see you on Monday!

Miss Williams :)

Important information:

Spellings will be given out on Friday and tested on the following Friday. These will be tested in the children's phonics groups.

Please continue to hear your child read as often as you can and sign their diary. Most children now are very independent at changing their books which is brilliant to see.

PE is on Wednesday and Thursday. Please can you ensure ALL clothing items are clearly named.
