Welcome to Leasowes Extra. Our setting provides a safe, stimulating and caring learning environment for children aged between 3 and 11. We are open between the hours of 7.45a.m. and 6p.m., Monday to Friday, during term time. We offer Nursery sessions and wrap around care for our 3 and 4 year olds and before and after school provision for children in Reception through to year 6. The setting achieved an ‘outstanding’ judgement by Ofsted at our last inspection, something we are very proud of and continuously work hard to maintain.
Our Nursery sessions provide high quality learning, development and care which is delivered by Early Years qualified and experienced staff in a stimulating environment specifically designed for children between the ages of 3 and 4. The EYFS curriculum is delivered during these sessions and practice is overseen by the Early Years Lead in school to ensure that high teaching standards are met at all times. We accept Early Education Funding (EEF), the 15 hours free funding each child receives from the school term after they turn 3, and also the additional 15 hours funding for those families eligible to receive this. We are very flexible in terms of how these funded hours can be used e.g. three full days, every morning, two and a half days etc. although all places are subject to our admissions criteria and availability at the point of entry.
The school Nursery is also home to the before and after school sessions for our Reception children. This enables us to care for all of the EYFS children together in one setting which is specifically designed to cater for their needs.
Before School Sessions
Children can be dropped off any time after 7.45.a.m. and a light breakfast is provided for those children who want it. There are plenty of resources available for your child to play with until it is time for school/Nursery. At the start of the school day KS2 children are allowed to make their own way to their classes, KS1 children are walked down to their classrooms by a member of staff and Reception children are also taken across to their classrooms by a member of staff.
After School Sessions
Every afternoon the children in Reception are collected from their classroom and the KS1 children are collected from the KS1 hall and taken to their respective after school settings. KS2 children make their own way there after their last lesson. Once a register has been taken a drink and snack are offered to all children. The snacks are varied but the children are always offered some fruit as well. The following are just some of the snacks offered; toasted crumpets, pancakes, toasted muffins, slices of cake and biscuits.
The children can then choose to participate in the adult led activity for that afternoon such as art and crafts, team challenges, cake/biscuit decorating and a range of outdoor games and activities or they may choose to play independently or with friends indoors from the vast range of free choice resources that are available to them at all times. Our resources include role play, books and magazines, computers and interactive games consoles, construction toys, small world play and a variety of board games and puzzles.
Children can be collected any time up to 6p.m.
Children in KS1 and KS2 attend the before and after school setting based at the KS2 end of the school and the Nursery and Reception children attend the Early Years provision based in the Nursery.
