During the first half term of the year, children discuss the theme of democracy in their classes. Through this learning, children gain an understanding of why living in a democratic society is so important. Their discussions culminate in the School Council representatives being elected from each class from Year 2 upwards, who will sit on the council for a full year. The School Council meet weekly with Miss Reeves to discuss suggestions, put forward by their classmates, to improve our school. Following each meeting, the representative feeds back to their class and collects further suggestions.
Previous councils have had great success in organising events throughout the school year such as Children in Need, World Book Day and Sports Relief. Throughout this year, the council will be focusing on:
- Organising other fundraising events year-round
- Looking into how our playgrounds can be improved
- Discussing possible changes to our school’s uniform
